The Programmes
via:mento_international and via:mento are designed for female postdoctoral scientists at Kiel University who wish to pursue a professorship or another permanent scientific employment. The target audience consists of mainly female postdoctoral researchers, assistent professors and junior research group leaders, but also junior professors.
The programmes benefit from the individual and scientific qualities of every mentee. Therefore, via:mento_international and via:mento accumulate female researchers from different scientific backgrounds, who display a wide range of qualifications and experience concerning the German as well as other scientific systems.
Due to a cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN), the Institute for the World Economy (IfW) and GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, researchers of these three research institutes located in Kiel are also eligible for via:mento.

via:mento_international is the new programme branch of via:mento. The programme started in 2020 and is funded by the Professorinnenprogramm III. It is directed especially at female postdoctoral researchers of Kiel University who have either only recently arrived in Kiel or are planning an extensive stay abroad. Similar to via:mento, via:mento_international is open to female scientists who wish to pursue their academic career after having received their doctorate, secure a permanent position and aim at a professorship. The programme’s emphasis lies on its international orientation. The programme’s language is English. In Dezember 2020 the 1st programme cycle is due to start. |
Established in 2010, via:mento is the first university encompassing mentoring programme designed for female scientists who aim to locate themselves in the German scientific community in the future. The programme’s language is German. Following 10 years of experience and 5 successful programme cycles, the 6th cycle is due to start in December 2020. |
Both programmes are coordinated at the Central Office for Gender Equality, Diversity & Family. The programmes' concepts are based on the quality standards of Forum Mentoring e.V., the German Federal Association for Mentoring in Science. via:mento_international and via:mento are both members in the Forum Mentoring e.V. and the European Network eument-net.
